Acetal has low moisture uptake, good fatigue strength and rigidity, and is easily machined. Good dimensional stability for precision parts with tight tolerances. Good sliding characteristics. Retains strength even at low temperatures.

Key features:

  • High strength, rigidity & toughness
  • Good creep resistance
  • Excellent machinability
  • Excellent resilience
  • Low water absorption
  • FDA approved
  • Good electrical properties

  • Typical Applications:
  • Rollers, gears & cams
  • Bushings, clips, lugs
  • Valve seats, handles
  • Spools, thrust washers
  • Shims, scrapers
  • Shear pins
  • Electrical components
  • Food processing parts
  • Medical devices

  • Turning
  • Use high rake polished aluminum tips. Tip radius 0.8mm or larger

  • Milling
  • Uncoated Aluminum high-speed cutters give best results.

  • Drilling
  • High-speed steel drills are suitable for most applications.

  • General Notes:
Acetal is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with high strength and good creep resistance.
Acetal is a dimensionally stable rigid plastic with a very low moisture absorption, particularly good when used against soft mating materials such as stainless stee.
Acetal is known to be one of the easiest engineering plastics to machine, the swarf will often chip allowing for easy swarf removal.
Medium to high speeds with low to medium feed rates are recommended.
Tighter tolerances can be achieved compared to UHMWPE and Nylon.
If large amounts of material are to be removed, roughing out and leaving for 24 hours to stress relieve may be required.
Tools must be sharp. Keep swarf clear during machining, avoid head build up.
The rods are manufactured slightly oversize to allow for machining down to the specified size
