An elastometric material of exceptional physical properties such as toughness, flexibility and resistance to abrasion, temperature, puncture and tearing. Polyurethane combines the toughness of metal with the elasticity of rubber.

  • Turning
  • Use high speed steel with 20 degree front rake and 20-40 degree top rake. Edges must be honed to a polished finish.

  • Uncoated Aluminum high-speed steel cutters give best results.

  • High-speed steel drills are suitable for most applications.

  • General Notes:
    Polyurethane 90A is a good general purpose material commonly used for bump stops and suspension bushes.
    Pulyurethanes have very low thermal conductivity compared to metals, the heat generated while machining stays close to the tool edge.
    The use of water or water soluble coolants as a cutting fluid is recommended.
    Poor finishes and dimensional control will occur if excess heat is generated. High cutting speeds with low feed rates are required.
    Elastic recovery after machining can occur resulting in a change of size once completed.
    Pulyurethanes can be easily distorted, care needs to be taken when clamping this material.
